Todoist Export

Overview

I’ve used Todoist as my task manager for years, and as a self-tracker I wanted my full history of completed tasks, not just the stats inside the app. Todoist Export is a simple Python 3 script that pulls your data through the Todoist API and saves it as CSV files you can open in Google Sheets, Tableau, Python, or R. I also ran a small web version at TodoistExport.com so people could download their completed tasks without touching code.

What I built

  • A Python script that exports current tasks, completed past tasks, and your list of projects to CSV
  • A simple web app (TodoistExport.com, no longer online) for exporting and downloading your completed task history
  • A related Todoist notebook in QS Ledger for analyzing the data once you have it

The repo has about 30 stars on GitHub.

Why it mattered to me

Looking at my completed tasks in a spreadsheet showed me patterns I couldn’t see day to day, like a habit of clearing lots of small tasks instead of the bigger, harder ones. I wrote about my setup in GTD with Todoist and Task Tracking with Todoist.
