Biomarker Tracker

Co-Founder & UX Lead | 2018 - 2020 Never Launched

Overview

Biomarker Tracker was a data-driven wellness product focused on blood tests. The idea was a mobile app that takes your lab results, puts them in context, and gives you tailored health goals and advice. I worked on it with two co-founders as an INT3C project, building on the open source Awesome Biomarkers list. We took it through research and a tested prototype. It never launched.

What I did

  • Led a multi-week user research and UX design cycle as the UX designer
  • Interviewed doctors, patients managing conditions like diabetes and cancer, and “biohackers” who test their blood regularly (recruited through forums)
  • Ran stakeholder visioning and ideation workshops on virtual whiteboards (Miro)
  • Took the design through three rounds of iteration, from sketches and wireframes to a high-fidelity prototype in Adobe XD
  • Ran user testing on the prototype and wrote a business strategy report and product roadmap

What I learned

  • Doctors use blood tests for a narrow purpose. A cardiologist told us he looks at two or three results in a 20 or 30 test panel, and that educating the patient on the rest isn’t his job.
  • Patients felt let down. They put real effort into getting tested and got very little back. Many wanted more insight and something they could act on.

That gap, between the data people get and the meaning they want, is something I kept working on later in consumer longevity.
